BJ has been s-l-o-w-l-y getting better! It's hard to see much improvement from day to day, but he is definitely much better than a few days ago. His hemoglobin was low this morning, so he received a blood transfusion today. His other counts (platelets, white blood cells, ANC) have recovered, so now we're just waiting for this infection to get under control. Results from his bronchoscopy on Friday are still not back yet. Hopefully we will hear something tomorrow about what type of fungus/mold has caused his infection. He has still had a fever every day, the last one being this morning, but the temperatures are trending down each day. He is still on oxygen, but is doing well with it being decreased each day. We've walked laps around the 11th floor the past 2 days, and he's like a celebrity walking past the nurse's station. They all love BJ, and are so happy to see him up, walking the floor, and looking so much better. We're definitely blessed by the level of care here and such caring staff on every level. We're just trying to be patient. BJ can go home when he is fever-free for 24 hours and is off oxygen. We feel like that may be any day now.
Pictures: Several players from the Charlotte Knights baseball team were here today, and stopped in to visit BJ. Yesterday was the first day of school for our county. I've taken a picture of him on the first day of school every year, so this year would be no different, but definitely not the same. He won't be starting 9th grade this year with the rest of the Class of 2019, but he will definitely be back after he KICKS cancer's ASS!
