Tuesday, December 15, 2015...26th day in the hospital
Today was a pretty good day. BJ's white count is down to 0.1 this morning. He was taken off the IV antibiotic, and put on a prophylactic antibiotic to prevent infections while his immune system is not functioning. A portable air filtering machine was also brought into his room to clean the air. He is still experiencing a lot of nerve pain in his feet. His dose of Neurontin was increased again today. He has continued to be nauseated during the day, but he was able to eat a slice of lemon pound cake, and some cheese ravioli with alfredo sauce today.
BJ slept most of the day, but woke up for a visit from two Carolina Panthers players who were here visiting kids on the floor today. Graham Gano and Brad Nortman spent a few minutes talking to BJ. After they left, BJ said he could talk to them for hours. He has a lot of respect for Graham Gano, mostly for being a great Christian dad.
BJ had his last Mitoxantrone chemo infusion tonight. It really makes him feel bad. Hopefully when he has a bone marrow aspiration and biopsy in the next few weeks, most or all of the leukemia will be gone and he will be ready for transplant.
